The Intaglio Ring

The “Intaglio” Ring and the “Ellenistico” Ring are L’Arte Nascosta’s signature signet ring styles.

Inspired by ancient references found in museums and archeological sites around the world, we developed our line of Custom “Intaglio” Signet Rings as a tribute to the multi-millennial tradition of permanently engraving personal emblems or devices into gemstones.

Each Intaglio Signet Ring is custom designed, affording each patron the opportunity to choose his or her preferred gemstone, precious metal, and engraving motif.

What results is a future heirloom, a wearable work of artisanal art, and, most importantly of all, a lasting reminder of the values the patron lives by.

How it’s made

Styling

Step 1.

The process of commissioning your own Intaglio Signet Ring begins with styling the ring.  Compared to the Ellenistico Signet Ring, this model offers greater opportunities for customization.

Available in Sterling Silver, 9k Yellow Gold, or 18k Yellow, Rose or White Gold, each ring may be paired with a gemstone of your choice be it onyx, bloodstone, lapis lazuli, carnelian, or virtually any other.

Step 11.

Motif Design & Customization

Once the physical structure of the ring has been designed, we work with the patron to determine the engraving motif that best expresses the meaning that he or she would like to convey through their commission. Sometimes patrons have a clear idea of the subjects that they'd like to engrave; however, if you are in need of help, we are always pleased to consult with you to offer a guiding hand. Our expertise is calling upon the countless resources available in Medieval and Renaissance art: an endless source of inspiration and allegorical tools for composing timeless and lasting works of visual poetry.

Oftentimes, in addition to the engraved gemstone, patrons choose to embellish their ring further with precious stones and decorative engravings.

Production and Engraving

Step 111.

Once the ring has been designed, our artisans begin transforming your vision into reality. Paolo Penko casts your ring setting in sterling silver or gold, while in Naples, our gemstone engraver, Stefania Nicastro, cuts your desired stone to size and begins engraving. When the engraving has been completed Stefania ships the gemstone to Paolo who mounts it a colpo in its setting.

Production is completed once Paolo embellishes the ring with our signature cesoro finish, inspired by the hammered finish typically applied to jewelry during the Etruscan age.
