If Italy Had a Voice

Amalfi Coast

If Italy had a voice, it would most certainly sing.

Its rocky peaks and lush valleys would echo the chorus of its ponente wind. The Mediterranean tide would beat its coast from Sicily to Liguria giving rhythm to an ancient song sung by its people - those that have preserved its land and tended its crop since the peninsula first took shape. The modal tones of their voices are bittersweet relics of a tumultuous, ancient past when foreign invaders clashed, conquered and blended to form what is now simply known as Italian.

If Italy had a voice, it would most certainly sing, and its song would sound like this…
