The “Moneta” Pendant
Our signature “Moneta” Pendants are entirely handmade in-house by Paolo Penko and his team of goldsmiths.
Designed and developed in collaboration with L’Arte Nascosta, the “Moneta” Pendant offers all the perfectly imperfect charm of an ancient artifact.
Inspired by the stylized engravings of the Byzantine Empire, our Moneta Pendants are wearable, hand-engraved visual poems that are meant to be worn over the heart to help you always remember those people and those values that you hold closest to it.
How it’s made
Styling & Motif Design
Step 1.
Commissioning a “Moneta” Pendant begins with styling the pendant itself and designing the motif that will ultimately be engraved on it. The structure can be made in Sterling Silver, 18k Gold, or a combination of the two, and is custom hand engraved with a personal symbol or motif.
We are always pleased to engrave pre-existing subjects on our patron’s pendants; however, our true expertise lies in designing bespoke motifs. Upon request, we consult with the patron to understand the personal meaning that he or she would like the pendant to convey and devise a custom motif by extrapolating allegorical symbols from the Renaissance, Medieval, and classical periods.
The resulting motif is a uniquely personal device firmly rooted in centuries of historical provenance with distinctly Italian style.
Production & Engraving
Step 11.
The setting of the “Moneta” Pendant features Paolo Penko’s signature “penkato” finish; once it is cast in the patron’s metal of choice, a sterling silver or 18k gold disk is cut to size, embellished with the “cesoro” hammered finish, and hand engraved with the patron’s personal motif.
Finish & Delivery
Step 111.
Once the engraving has been completed, pendants with sterling silver elements are burnished, resulting in greater contrast in engraved areas.*
At this point, the pendant is ready for delivery along with a certificate of authenticity, handwritten by Paolo Penko, and the Maestro’s hand-drawn sketch study of the engraving.
*The production phase, called brunitura is not applicable to commissions in gold.
