Atelier GK

Bookbinding Experience

Craft your own keepsake journal under the direction of 6th Generation Bookbinder, Lapo Giannini, and Book Conservator, Michiko Kuwata.

Lapo Giannini and Michiko Kuwata established ATELIERGK FIRENZE in 2010, integrating six generations of family history and over twenty years experience in bookbinding, art conservation and crafting of novelty items.

Traditional Florentine techniques merge with Japanese meticulous attention to aesthetic details, using high quality materials and equipment aiming to produce and restore functional luxury items for the home.

We are pleased to offer our guests a hands-on experience in Lapo and Michiko’s intimate workshop nestled in Florence’s San Frediano district of the historic Oltrarno neighborhood.

Guests will acquire first-hand experience working with the specialized tools used in the centuries-old craft of Florentine Bookbinding.

After crafting a rigid book cover with a Florentine paper of their choice, guests will proceed to assemble their own journal, and further customize it by affixing a leather label embossed with their initials in gold leaf.

At the end of a two-hour experience, guests will leave the Atelier GK workshop with a lasting souvenir that they can use for years to come to record their cherished travel memories.
